I started Women Who Fail because I wanted to teach myself how to podcast and needed a subject that wouldn’t run out of steam after three episodes. But on a deeper level, I think I chose ‘failing and failure’ because I’m a bit fed of my own perfectionism. Emma Gannon describes this tendency so well: “Perfectionism is not even letting yourself fail because you’re not even allowing yourself to finish”. I constantly get in the way of myself but I remember hearing Seth Godin once say, “start as though you’re going to fail” and I still find that really freeing to think about. Zero expectation = permission to play.
